The Ankeny Art Center is an innovative visual arts organization committed to providing superior art experiences that inspire, educate and challenge all members of our community. We are dedicated to supporting local artists, providing educational development and a diverse art experience for people of all ages. Our art gallery has new and inspiring exhibits every eight weeks and provides space for Iowa artists to showcase their work. Our gallery is designed to facilitate the introduction and development of diverse artists that work in a variety of styles and media to enrich the culture of our community. All of our exhibitions and artist receptions are free and open to the public. We provide exciting art classes, summer camps and workshops to students of ages and skill levels. Our certified art teachers are working artists or art instructors from the community who demonstrate an outstanding ability in teaching and artistic expression. The Ankeny Art Center also hosts the annual Santa's North Pole Village Craft Show featuring 300 vendors and approximately 5,000 shoppers. Bricks 4 Kidz offers project-based programs designed to teach principles and methods of engineering and architecture, as well as concepts across a variety of subject areas including math, science and history using LEGO bricks. The activities are designed to trigger a child's lively imaginations, encourage problem solving and enable children to learn not only by listening and observing, but also by using their fine motor skills and spatial intelligence. Six Flags Great America is a proud supporter of educational programs and has created several opportunities to encourage education in the community. Read to Succeed is a program for K-6 students who complete six hours of non-school related reading to earn a free admission ticket. Schools can register online in the fall. Six Flags also hosts several educational events each year for teachers and students. Our most popular educational events is Physics Day where students from local schools participate in an outdoor learning lab by measuring G-forces on our rides and coasters. We offer a variety of online workshops on molecular medicine for high-achieving high school and middle school students interested in pursuing careers in medicine or related fields, such as pharmacy, nursing or medical research. Online workshop are offered year-round, and include Medical Bioinformatics, Emerging Pathogenic Viruses, Medicinal Chemistry and Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Workshops are offered live, and are compatible with school schedules.
